FEREYDOUN AVE

Born in Tehran in 1945, Ave is widely regarded as a highly significant and influential contemporary artist from Iran. In 1963, he ventured to the United States to pursue his artistic education, attending NYU's film school in New York, as well as studying in Orange County, California, and Tempe, Arizona. After completing his studies, Ave returned to Iran, immersing himself in the fields of theater, film, and eventually art curation.

Despite the disruption caused by the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Ave remained in Iran, dedicating himself increasingly to the visual arts. In 1984, he founded the 13 Vanak Street Gallery in Tehran, serving as an alternative exhibition space that actively fostered artistic discourse and nurtured a whole generation of Iranian artists under his mentorship. Starting from 1975, Ave's artworks have been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Tehran, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Greece, Zurich, London, Paris, New Zealand, and the USA. His works have also been prominently featured in various publications and are held in esteemed collections such as the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Contemporary Art Museum in Tehran, the British Museum in London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Presently, Ave resides and works between Tehran and Paris.
