Elham moaidnia

Elham Moaidnia is an Australian-Iranian contemporary artist whose work has gained recognition across the Middle East, Australia, Iran, and beyond.

Born in Esfahan — one of Iran’s historic centres of art and culture — she began drawing before the age of ten and early on discovered her ability to express ideas visually rather than through words. She trained at Honarhaye Ziba, Esfahan’s prestigious High School of Fine Arts, before graduating at the top of her class from Azad University’s Faculty of Arts and Architecture. Moaidnia’s career reflects both artistic excellence and cultural commitment.

Elham has exhibited her work internationally, deliberately choosing regions where emerging art scenes are developing, with the intention of contributing to their progression. Her work merges fantasy and realism, shaped by influences ranging from Marc Chagall’s expressive colour to Jalaluddin Rumi’s spiritual humanism. While her subject matter often addresses the struggles of modern life in Iran — the position of women, social inequality, poverty, and restrictive cultural norms — she rejects sombre palettes. Instead, she renders difficult realities in bold, luminous colour, proclaiming their urgency rather than hiding them in grey. Persian symbols, expressive figures, and calligraphic elements function as visual commentary, sometimes flowing across the canvas like slogans, challenging narrative expectations and adding conceptual depth.
